| Q:
What makes MAL Datalogging software better than the competition? |
A:
There are many reasons our software is better than the competition,
and we are always adding new features to
keep ahead. Our software can achieve data sample
rates that no other software can touch. Rates of 115
samples/second and higher have been
achieved. We can log 16 parameters at once, other software
packages only allow 12. Our
software also has 21 parameters to log, including the rear O2.
No other software auto-detects what car you are using, so it is
customized every time it connects to
your car. There are many other features, and not enough room
to show them all here. More can be seen at our software page
right here.

-1990-1994
Mitsubishi Eclipse, Galant VR-4, Eagle Talon, and Plymouth Laser

| Q:
What Palms will work with MAL Datalogging software? |
A:
Our dataloggers are software compatible with the following PDA's:
-All Palm PDA's with OS 3.1 or greater. Newer palm Zires and
Tungstens WILL NOT work.
You need a palm with a serial cable or cradle, USB WILL NOT work.
-All Handspring PDA's with OS 3.1 or greater. Some newer
handsprings are not compatible
(list coming soon). You WILL NEED a serial cable for these,
since Handspring's only come with
USB ports. You WILL ALSO NEED to purchase our
special Handspring dataloggers. These have an external power
tap that must be connected into
the fuse box via a spade connector.
-Some Sony Clie's with OS 3.5 or greater work. S360 and SJ20
have been tested to work.
Clie NX70V, NX60, NZ90, and TG50 have bad serial ports and are not
compatible. Once again as with the Handspring devices, you
WILL NEED a special serial
hotsync cable. We currently do not sell these at this time,
but they can be found on e-bay for
around $7.

A:
Yes, MAL can purge solenoids, test injectors, turn on the fuel pump,
and turn on several other relays in your
car to help diagnose problems.

| Q:
How do I view logs on my PC with MAL? |
A:
You must first download our log conversion tool available in our
download area.
You can then select the directory your logs are backed up to on your
computer. This directory is
"C:\Program Files\Palm\[hotsync
name]\backup" by default. But this can
change. When you have selected a directory to use, hit the
translate button, and all of your
logs in that directory will be translated to .txt files. These
can then be imported into excel for graphing, or sent over the
internet to help diagnose problems with
your run.

| Q:
What sampling rates can MAL achieve? |
A:
Every palm has the same capability to perform as well as the next.
On a Palm IIIe and a 1991 3000GT VR-4 we
were able to achieve data rates above 115 samples
per second. The adaptive data rate increases as more
parameters are selected to keep your
logs in high resolution.

| Q:
Why does MAL display "No Connection", why won't it connect? |
A:
There are several conditions causing your datalogger not to connect:
-Is your car a 1990-1991 Talon TSI, click here
-Make sure you have your car ON, or in the "ON" key position
-Make sure the OBDI plug is securely in the diagnostic port
-Make sure the other end is connected securely to the palm/laptop
-Are you using a USB->Serial converter?
Click
here -Make sure the software is
compatible with your palm/laptop version
-Try short circuiting the black and yellow wires in the OBDI plug
with a paperclip.
Do this by connecting either end of the paperclip to the metal pins
inside the OBDI plug. If
your car isn't a 90-91 Talon TSI, contact us here,
your cable could possibly be bad.
-If you are using a Handspring or Sony, make sure you have our
datalogger cable with the
additional power tap from the fuse box, and make sure it is
connected -If you can still not get it
to connect, please contact us here

| Q:
Why does the Rear O2 sensor log option sometimes go away? |
A:
The Rear O2 sensor is shown when MAL detects you have a 6 cylinder
V-engine. This only happens for the
3000GT/Stealth cars. Sometimes an error can occur
in the transmission line if you are using one of these cars and it
will detect your car wrong. To fix
the problem simply exit out of MAL and start it back up.

Q: Can I run MAL software on my laptop? |
A:
Yes, and no. You can use a palm emulator to run the program,
but it will not perform as well as it
would on a palm. This is because of the speed problem with
the emulator. We recommend going out and buying a cheap palm
off of eBay.

| Q:
Why does it automatically select RPMs when I select Injector DC? |
A:
To calculate Injector Duty Cycle, IPW and RPMs are needed to
complete the equation. The program
selects IPW in the background when you select IDC, but
it also needs RPMs. Therefore it will automatically select it
for you when you select Injector DC.
There is no way around this. Most people watch RPMs on every
log anyway, so it is not considered a
major issue.

|
Q: How much space do the logs take up? How many logs can
I fit on my palm? |
A:
Depending on how many parameters were selected, the size of the log
file will differ. Even at all 16
parameters, the logs take up about 120 bytes per second.
You will be able to fit plenty of logs on a 2MB palm, and an 8MB
palm is more than enough. If you
are running out of space, you can change the logging to low
resolution mode in the options, this makes it take up half the
space.

Q: Will MAL work with PDA cell phones? |
A:
Although PDA cell phones are NOT supported, some have been reported
to work. From information provided by an
end user, the newest cell phone line with the
serial cable was capable of datalogging the car. We have not
personally tested our product on any
cell phones, and most likely will not in the future.
